Bayside High is the setting for Saved by the Bell, a show that follows a group of students and their antics, primarily through the lens of Zack Morris - a charismatic schemer more concerned with girls and friends than academics. In contrast to Zack, Kelly Kapowski is hardworking and focused. As the most popular girl in school, she bears the responsibility of being head cheerleader, the oldest child in her family, and captain of three sports teams. Zack and Slater were both romantically interested in Kelly, but she ultimately chose Zack. The two married in Las Vegas, eventually gaining their parents' approval despite their young age. Kelly currently serves as the first lady of California and has a son, Mac, who attends Bayside.

Screech, on the other hand, lacks social skills but excels in computer science, academics, and his fondness for insects. His friends support him despite his awkwardness, particularly in his romantic pursuits, as he pines for Lisa Turtle, who rejects him constantly. Screech often unintentionally foils Zack's schemes, which suits him fine, as he rarely wants to be involved in the first place.

A.C. Slater succeeds in sports but struggles with academics. He had a crush on Kelly, but she chose Zack instead. Slater and Zack are best friends, though their relationship is often filled with turmoil, usually over shared love interests. Slater's relationship with Jessie is similarly complicated, as she is a vocal feminist and he is notably not. Despite their differences, they are drawn to each other.

Jessie excels in class and is heavily involved in political discourse and student affairs. After a fierce battle with Zack, she claimed the title of student-body president. Jessie often faces hardship in her efforts to be the best version of herself, including a battle with an addiction to over-the-counter caffeine pills, which her friends helped her overcome.

Finally, Lisa Turtle is the fashionista and gossip queen of Saved by the Bell. She is wealthier than most of her classmates and uses her father's credit card to reward herself with clothes after good test scores. Romantically, Lisa struggles to find a mutual connection, particularly with Screech, whose advances she consistently rejects.
